If director Sam Mendes had had his way, actor John Krasinski would have given his comedy role in the US version of the series ‘The Office‘ a miss. Mendes, mercifully, failed to convince the actor that he couldn’t carry off a comedy role well.

Mendes has casted Krasinski in his upcoming movie ‘Away We Go‘ and the two actually met for the first time during the filming of ‘Jarhead’ in 2005. When Mendes first got to know that Krasinski was considering taking up the role of Jim Halpert in the award wining British series, he was skeptical and warned the actor about his lack of comedy talent.

However, Mendes who initially felt that the actor didn’t have a funny side to him, now feels that he jumped the gun and didn’t take due consideration of Krasinski’s talent. He now says, “I was completely wrong”.
